Ready for a couple of days outdoors, being together and experiencing things with the whole family? A mini-break that everyone can enjoy awaits you in the green heart of North Brabant. Plenty of time to retreat to a wonderful holiday house in Oisterwijk, with the extensive Brabant countryside from your front garden and the cool city of Tilburg just around the corner.

Day 1. Arrival in Oisterwijk

  • Landal Klein Oisterwijk
  • Landal Klein Oisterwijk

Oisterwijk in view? Then you can get into the holiday mood right away! You can check in without any hassle into a comfortable lodge at Landal Klein Oisterwijk holiday park and enjoy the rest of the afternoon in the park. If the weather is nice, you won’t be able to keep the kids away from the swimming lake where they can take a dip in the natural water. Or maybe you would like to try a round of mini golf?

You don’t need to leave the park or even your lodge for an evening meal, but the attractive centre of Oisterwijk is just around the corner. You can rent bicycles on site for a lovely ride through the woods. In less than 10 minutes you will already be on one of the lively terraces at De Lind.

Day 2. Fun in the countryside at the Oisterwijk Forests and Fens

  • Moeder en kind op boomstam in herfstbos
  • Gezin wandelt in herfstbos

Time to get out into the countryside! You can do that straight from your front door, as you can walk directly into the Oisterwijk Forest and Fens. You can still wander along the winding woodland pathways here, and there are plenty of well-marked paths to choose from. The Groot Speijck Visitor Centre is the starting point, from where various walking routes have been marked out, including the 3.2 kilometre Groot Speijck Walking Route. Part of this route is paved and therefore perfectly suitable for both wheelchair users and buggies.

You will pass through a variety of heathland and fens. Maybe you can see the Goorven lake through the trees. Its name is taken from the time when peat was cut here in the marshland. Now you can hunt for water birds and tadpoles here.

Tip

"You can stop for a delicious lunch after your walk at the Groot Speijck Restaurant, or you can order a picnic before you leave. Take a blanket with you and find a lovely spot by the water."

OERRR Nature Playground

  • Bezoekerscentrum Groot Speijck in de Oisterwijkse Bossen en Vennen
  • Restaurant De drie Vennen in Oisterwijk
  • Restaurant De drie Vennen in Oisterwijk

If you’re not tired out by the walk, the OERRR nature playground is next to the Groot Speijck terrace. Pump up water into the stream, climb across a rope bridge and try to keep your balance on the tree trunks

After an active day in the fresh air it will be good to get back to your holiday home. If you don’t have the energy to cook, how about a gourmet meal at De Drie Vennen Restaurant in the park, with its large patio, beach bar and (water) playground.

Day 3. A day out in Tilburg

Whenever you wake up in the middle of the woods, it’s hard to imagine that city life is just around the corner. This is a perfect opportunity for a great day out in Tilburg on the last day of your holiday. You can be in the city centre in less than 10 minutes by train from Oisterwijk. For a more active day out you can get on your bike for a 15-kilometre route through the woods and meadows.

Go to a kidsproof museum in Tilburg

  • Twee kinderen maken iets van touw in het Natuurmuseum in Tilburg
  • Kessels Museum in Tilburg
  • TextielMuseum Tilburg

Tilburg is a leading city of creativity and experimentation, and you can experience that to the full in its museums. Time for a bit of ‘eeny meeny, miny, moe’, where the children can assume the role of archaeologist in the Brabant Natural History Museum or discover the world of music in the Kessels Museum. Another way to have fun together is to immerse yourselves in the history of Tilburg in an interactive way in the TextielMuseum. You can discover here how the machines in the old factory worked, and children from the age of 5 can take part in the TextielLab workshops.

Eat in a railway carriage

  • Spoorzone Tilburg

The former workshops of Nederlandse Spoorwegen (Dutch Railways) are located on the outskirts of the city centre. The general public were not allowed here for many years, which gave it the nickname ‘Forbidden City.’ Nowadays you can admire everything in the old warehouses and railway sheds.

If you want something to eat first, you can do so in style at the Eetbar De Eetwagon café where you can take your seat in  a railway carriage. After that you can walk past colourful murals and take a look inside the LocHal, where you will now find the most unusual library in the Netherlands in a place where trains used to be parked.

Climbing in the Spoorpark

  • Tilburg Kempentoren in het Spoorpark
  • Foto van het spoorpark met T-huis en terras erop

You can walk from the Spoorzone (Railway Zone) to the Spoorpark; a playground for all ages. Take a look at the water playground and the urban sports park. A great way to round this off is the 37-metre high Kempentoren tower. For 2 euros you can take the stairs to the top and enjoy panoramic views of Tilburg and its surroundings. Maybe you can see Oisterwijk in the woods on the horizon. Have a good look round and take home your memories of a weekend full of experiences.
