Bierbrouwerij De Roos in Hilvarenbeek is both a museum and a brewery dedicated to craft beer. With original equipment from 1877 still present, you experience the authentic atmosphere of a 19th-century brewery. During a guided tour of the museum and tasting room, enthusiastic volunteers tell you about the cast-iron mash tun, the wort scoop, and cooking on a wooden fire stack. After such an intriguing tour, also available with an audio guide (in Dutch, English, German and French), you’re bound to be thirsty. Fortunately, the tasting room serves their own beers, with memorable names like Bikse Tripel and Bikse Rooie Fik, as well as various Limited Editions.
- The Netherlands’ only authentic village brewery
- Tours and tastings by experienced tour guides and bar staff
- In a listed building on the Vrijthof: one of the Netherlands’ most beautiful village centres

A previous guest left this review: ‘The guided tour and tasting were very well organised. We also visited the shop and bought tasty treats. We’ll definitely come back.’ Other reviews praise the multilingual volunteers’ warm engagement and expertise. De Roos’s shop is also popular, offering gifts and Roos beers to enjoy at home. Additionally, a corner has been set up in the tasting room where younger guests can play while adults enjoy the tasting.
Tip for your visit: Groups of 10 or more can book special deals, including a guided tour and/or beer tasting, even outside standard opening hours. It’s perfect for a family day, bachelor party, reunion, or friends' weekend.
Bierbrouwerij De Roos’s speciality beers have won various prizes, but the 130 volunteers are probably even prouder of receiving the Heritage Volunteer Prize in 2023, and of enthusiastically passing on Brabant’s beer brewing traditions. De Roos makes both traditional techniques and intangible heritage accessible to a wide audience.
