Van Abbemuseum is now on the spot where the Stratumse Watermolen once stood.
Van Abbemuseum is now on the spot where the Stratumse Watermolen once stood. This mill was used as a soke mill in the 15th century, and farmers were forced to have their grain ground there. In the 19th century, the mill was used to power the spinning machines of Smits textile factory. The building housing the spinning machines burned down in 1896.
