Willem Hellemons and Father Vincentius (J. Huijbrechts) founded the Saint Louis Institute in 1840 with the aim of educating young men.
Saint Aloysius Gonzaga (1568-1591) was chosen by the brothers to be their patron saint. The name Aloysius was changed into Louis, so he became known as Saint Louis.
