Stadspaleis Willem II | HBS
Willem II’s City Palace | High School In 1886 the HBS (Hogere Burger School or Higher Civic School) moved into Willem II’s former city palace.
Vincent was given drawing lessons there from one of the best art teachers of the time: Constant Cornelis Huijsmans. He worked according to traditional academic rules, in which drawing was determined by observation. It is noticeable that Vincent never mentioned his studies at the High School in his subsequent letters. Moreover, he wrote to his brother Theo that it would have been more of a help to him if somebody had introduced him to the rules of perspective earlier.
