DePetrus
"I have seen many repurposed churches in the Netherlands, but this one is the most beautiful," commented an enthusiastic visitor to DePetrus.
"I have seen many repurposed churches in the Netherlands, but this one is the most beautiful," commented an enthusiastic visitor to DePetrus in Vught. Guests can't stop talking about the allure of this magnificent space, where the stained glass is constantly (and beautifully) changing the incoming light. Less than a month after the opening, CNN headlined: "How beautiful design is keeping libraries relevant in the digital era”. This is an amazing tribute of course, but it only captures a small part of what this impressive place has to offer, because in addition to the Vught Library, DePetrus also houses the Vughts Museum, a Fair Trade shop and a readers’ café. A great place to enjoy a great cup of coffee and a delicious pastry while you unwind among an extensive selection of newspapers and magazines.

Masterful mezzanine
The most striking addition is the mezzanine, an intermediate floor from which you have a unique view. It runs inside the church but also outside, as a canopy under which you can walk to adjoining pavilions, such as the pavilion that houses restaurant Hemels. On the beautiful ground floor of DePetrus you will find the museum, the library and the readers’ café. CNN and Forbes Magazine already praised the beautiful mix of old and new architecture; in fact, DePetrus featured in the same article as amazing libraries in Qatar, China and New York. But closer to home, the people of Vught are also impressed: "What a wonderful, positive place to be.”
Lectures, performances and guided tours
DePetrus is completely wheelchair accessible and entrance is free of charge. If you would like a guided tour then these are also available. For a modest fee you will get to hear everything about the architecture and redevelopment of DePetrus during a fun and informative tour. You can also take a tour on the colourful history of Vught and its neighbouring village of Cromvoirt. DePetrus also organizes lectures, exhibitions and performances almost every day. It is an ideal spot to visit for lovers of architecture, repurposed heritage, beauty and history, but also for other visitors: this hospitable place offers something for everyone.
