This unique Tilburg Museum draws a variety of groups, who have one thing in common: an interest in and love for music and everything around it. Kessels Museum brings the history of music and instrument making to life. Named after Mathieu Kessels: composer, conductor, writer, music publisher and founder of what at the time was the largest musical instrument factory in Europe. The museum tells his story and shows his legacy through an impressive collection of musical instruments, historical documents and traditional techniques. In other words: a source of inspiration for music lovers, professionals and cultural historians. And an extremely interesting and unique look into the Netherlands’ rich musical heritage.

Enthusiastic volunteers lovingly restore instruments in the workshop. It’s certainly worth taking a look. The workshops are also extremely popular among children, such as the KidsMuziekLab, that brings music closer and encourages making music together.
Tip for your visit: book a guided tour. Kessels Museum, at only 150 metres from Central Station and wheelchair friendly, is probably experienced at its best with an educational tour by an enthusiastic guide. They share an almost inexhaustible amount of experience and knowledge. Do note that you need to request a guide at least three weeks in advance. Check the website for the application form.
