The café was founded in 1953 by the Smetsers - van Stralen family (who converted the house on Molenstraat into this café). In 1978, it was passed from father to son (the Smetsers - van Lijssel family). Since 1994, it has been managed by the Smetsers - Smulders family, the grandson of the founder. Interestingly, during the war, the renowned painter KAREL APPEL lived here (in hiding) and created several beautiful paintings.
