"Making music together is incredibly powerful. It fosters solidarity: together we are one!" Jaap van Zweden said in an interview with NRC. That feeling has been the driving force behind his unstoppable urge to make music from a young age. A true rocket engine that propelled his career to great heights. He conducted some of the world's most famous orchestras, from Amsterdam to New York. Now, Van Zweden returns to 'his' Antwerp Symphony Orchestra temporarily. "They play their socks out for me," said the top maestro. And the renowned Flemish orchestra will have ample opportunity to do so in Beethoven's magnificent Ninth.

Two hundred years ago, Beethoven put the final notes of this masterpiece on paper. The message seems more relevant than ever. "Alle Menschen werden Brüder" sings the choir in the exuberant Finale of this symphony of symphonies. Speaking of solidarity and being one! Jaap's chemistry with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra was palpable during their performance of Mahler six in 2023. The roof went off. The ideal combination for Beethoven's masterpiece, with a symphony orchestra, a large choir, and no fewer than four vocal soloists.
